What is Korfball?

Korfball is the world’s only mixed team sport. As such, it has a unique social dimension. It takes just a few minutes to learn, but for those who take it seriously, a lifetime to perfect.

It is fast, dynamic and a challenging aerobic workout. While it values co-operation within the team, it can also be highly competitive. Like many other sports, it was first developed for schoolchildren – in the case of korfball in Amsterdam in 1902, as a variation of what was then basketball, adapted so both boys and girls could play equally within the same team.

The IKF has produced a general overview of the korfball. This 12 page brochure, Korfball - Sport in the Mixed Zone presents the sports history, korfballs philosophies, and the appeal of the sport in the International arena.
