Over the weekend teams from Wellington and Auckland competed at the second annual Taupo Tournament.
This year proved to be another scorcher both on the pitch and in the weather; with the mercury climbing well into the 30's and Taupo's usually cool climate being replaced with humidity levels more akin to Auckland.
The weather seemed to favor the Northern side as they retained the SCS Taupo cup in a close game on the Saturday morning. In the first half Auckland took the lead from their second attack and never reliquished it going in at half time 2 goals to the good. The second half was another even affair as both sides traded goals. A late charge by the Wellingtonians delivered a nail biting last few minutes but they couldn't quite get level. Final score 9 - 8. The rest of the Saturday was played out in good spirits with teams made up of mixed Wellington and Auckland players. In a change from last year Sunday was a beach tournament which was competed for quite seriously, players keen to get their hands on the hoop prizes!!
A big Thank You to the Auckland Tournament team for organising a hugely enjoyable weekend and thank goodness the lake was there to cool down in. I look forward to next year.
