The first National Provincial Korfball Tournament of 2007 was won this weekend by Canterbury.

Teams from Wellington and Auckland visited Christchurch’s Cowles Stadium, where they were met by both a Senior and an Under 23 squad fielded by host Canterbury.

The two Canterbury squads finished ahead of both North Island visitors in pool play, albeit by narrow margins, the Canterbury Senior team beating both visitors by just a single point.

Results in Sunday’s play-offs were consistent with the equivalent round-robin matches the previous day, with Canterbury Senior beating their Under 23 counterparts 13-11 to confirm their top-placing, while Wellington overcame a young and gallant Auckland team 16-10 to finish third.

Further National Provincial Korfball Tournaments during 2007 are scheduled in Wellington in September and Auckland in November.
